Panic Bar
Touch Bar, Emergency Exit Hardware, Panic Hardware, Panic & Fired rated Exit device
The names panic bar were coined to indicate the way people when panicked in a mass evacuation due to emergency crashed into the doors in order to exit.
Exit devices are required to use by building code and local fire departments where exit devices must be used. Because of the durability and easy to use of the exit device, panic hardware is also commonly installed in places where it isn't required by code.
There are different types of exit device: Rim type, Vertical and Mortise type.
An exit device consists of a spring-loaded metal bar fixed to the inside of an outward-opening door.
