Butt Hinge
Butt hinge, Piano hinge, Stainless steel hinge
Butt hinge is used to mount and operate doors on commercial properties and residential homes that attach to the abutting surfaces of a door jamb and the door. These hinges are usually mortised or recessed into both surfaces.
However, most residential hinges are made of steel, but some mortise hinges for exterior doors are often made of brass or stainless steel to prevent corrosion.
The butt hinge usually consists of two leaves that match. In the closed position, the butt hinge leaves will remain flush with each other where only the curled barrel, often referred to as the knuckle, is exposed.
